Above: do you know where you can or cannot ride your electric scooter?

The Active Mobility Act has come into effect since 1 May 2018. This is a set of laws governing the use of personal mobility devices (PMD) in Singapore.

Riders caught flouting the law by Land Transport Authority (LTA) enforcers may have their devices impounded, confiscated, pay a fine or even go to jail in the most serious cases.

The rules apply to both electric scooters and electric bicycles which are technically called pedal assisted bicycles (PAB).

In case you are not familiar with the new law, we have summarized the most important parts that electric scooter riders have to obey into a 1-minute video. Stay on the right side of the law, take a look at the video below. 

Electric scooter riders must also be aware of the Act's RULES WHEN RIDING ON PATHS not mentioned in this video. These rules include

• assisting a pedestrian injured by you, and exchanging contact information
• mandatory white headlights and rear red lights (or red reflectors) on your electric scooter
• observing no-riding signs
